Filmed against an architecturally authentic backdrop the documentary film “Charleston – The Soul of a City” explores the rich history of one of the country’s most important colonial cities. Director and cinematographer Randy Jarvis unearths the very heart of Charleston, South Carolina in this film, drawing the viewer into an “emotional archaeology” magnificently unearthing it’s past and those that influenced it’s illustrious and often complex influences on American history.

A two-hour documentary film comprising 18 episodes beginning in the 1650s and running through the 1990s, this documentary film’s stunning presentation combines rare never-before-seen images combined with vintage broadcast footage and high-definition ground and aerial cinematography. Through animation, the documentary movie re-creates the original sights and sounds of Charleston’s historic streets, homes and businesses as they were in the late 1800s, transporting viewers to an era never experienced in such a format.

A film brilliantly narrated by Don Morrow, with guest appearances by dozens of noted scholars, historians,politicians, architects and religious leaders, the movie also features individuals representing families who have called Charleston home for generations. An ensemble of acclaimed actors and actresses, including James Cromwell and Dianne Wiest, brings to life the dramatic stories of generations and cultures past through diaries and journals.

Providing the musical backdrop as this epic story unfolds are a host of choir groups representing the many genres of music coming from the interiors of the city’s historic churches to the fields of it’s rice plantations. Also integrated beautifully throughout the documentary film is the powerful musical energy of dozen of artists, including Itzhak Perlman, Edwin McCain, Duke Ellington and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Accompanying the Charleston Movie will be the bonus short-film The Virtue of Patience" a fascinating story about The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and a century old dream coming true in the form of three bells and a steeple.

As the film is being produced the studio is working with teachers throughout South Carolina in creating the Online Classroom Edition. Covering all 18 episodes of the film, this exciting teaching aid is specifically created by award-winning educators for educators to help students delve more deeply into the rich, full history of Charleston, South Carolina.
